How do democratic societies cope with the historical legacy of dictatorships? A conference of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) project at the Chair of Modern History at the University of Würzburg explored this question by looking at the democratization and collective memory processes in Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Brazil and Chile.
